Squads and Training

Squads, Training and Coaching

Nightcliff Swimming Club training squads are formed in line with Swimming Australia “Multi Year Age Group Swimmer Development Model.” This means that squads are selected on the following criteria:

Nightcliff has a minimum standard for joining each squad. Mini squad members need to be at least 5 years of age and be able to swim 25 metres in each of backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. The Coach makes the final decision on acceptance of swimmers into any of the squads.

We have four squads that meet the needs of swimmers of all ability.

Mini:  2 - 3 x 1 hour sessions per week

Bronze:  2 - 3 x 1.75 hour sessions per week

Black: 3-4 x 1 hour sessions per week

Silver:  4 - 5 x 1.5 - 2 hour sessions per week

Gold:  4 - 5 x 2 hour sessions per week

Coaching Fees
Coaching Fees are separate to Club Registration fees and are invoiced directly to each family by our Head Coach at the beginning of each new school term. Coaching fees must be paid directly to the Head Coach.

Outstanding Coaching fees will prevent swimmers from participating in training unless special arrangements have been made with the Coach.

Pool Entry
Pool entrance fee must be paid as swimmers enter the pool grounds, however various swim passes are available for purchase. Nightcliff Aquatic Centre is a cash only facility.

Missed Training
If a swimmer is unable to attend for a period of two weeks or longer, please notify the Head Coach.

Open Water Training
This group trains regularly on weekends at Darwin Waterfront Lagoon, and compete at local and interstate events. Check with the head coach for training times.

Participation in Competition
Although not compulsory, swimmers are encouraged to enter swim meets and Club nights to increase swimming confidence and foster a positive team spirit.

Training Equipment
A typical training kit consists of the following:

All senior Gold and Silver swimmers need to have:

All intermediate Bronze swimmers need to have:

All Junior Mini swimmers need to have:

Special and Holiday Training Programs
Special training arrangements may be put in place during school holidays.
Parents and swimmers will be notified by the Head Coach of any special training programs and any relevant training fee arrangements at the beginning of each school holiday period.

To ensure each individual has a training schedule suitable for his or her specific needs, it is recommended that swimmers and their parents discuss their requirements with the Head Coach.

The Coach is available after each coaching session if there are any concerns.

New Swimmer Assessment
New swimmers who need to be assessed for squads can attend at the pool on Fridays between 3.30pm and 4.00pm for assessment by the Head Coach. Please email the Club for an assessment appointment.
